Blog Content

One of the most important things about having a blog is content.  Adding fresh new content on a regular basis is a good way to gain more readers and more traffic from search engines.

But where does all that content come from?

Well, mostly from you. :)

Your blog should be about something that you’re interested in and know about; that’s the first step in choosing what kind of business to start.  So if you’ve chosen well, you should have plenty to write about.

Don’t worry so much about writing; this isn’t high school English.  No one is going to grade you or correct your grammar, although using spell check might be a good idea.

You want your style of writing to be casual and friendly; picture having coffee with a friend and write to her.  200-300 words is a good length to aim for, but a little shorter is OK too.  (FYI – at this point, I have written about 160 words.)

Lists are another good (and easy) way to add content.  You know, 5 reasons you should do this now, or 7 ways to save money – whatever your blog is about.

There are also lots of good sources for adding content to your blog without having to write it.

Ezine articles has a huge database of articles that you can use.  You have to create an account – it’s free – and then you can search for articles on your topic.  You are allowed to reprint the article in your blog as long as you do not change it in any way and add in the author’s bio at the end.  People write these articles and allow you to publish them in order to get exposure to more audiences.  You can do the same, if you’re interested.

Lady Pens is another similar site that allows you to republish their articles.  What I like about them is that all of their writers are online business women.

You can also use something called PLR – Private Label Rights content.  Some PLR is free, the better PLR is not.  You purchase an article, or usually a set of articles about a certain subject, then edit them to make them sound more like your own.  You can publish these to your site, use them as part of a product, or give them away as a gift.  You do not need to give credit to the author.

Some PLR sites I like are Tiffany Washko’s site and several that are recommended by Alice Seba from Internet Marketing Sweetie. I’ve know both of these women for years and completely guarantee the service and quality they provide.

FYI – word count is now about 435 – kind of long for a blog post – but you’ll get the hang of it in no time.  Just remember to keep adding that blog content!
