Get Out There!

OK, you’ve got a great business idea.  Your site is up – you’ve done all your homework and added keywords and SEO tags and maybe soon Google will notice you.

Now what?  How can you get people to come to your site?  They don’t even know you’re there!

That is why you have got to get out there and let them know.

How do you do that?

Be sociable.  Be friendly and helpful.

Start with a Twitter account and a Facebook account.  Those are my two favorites, but there are tons more out there.  You can join them too.

Then go find a forum or two and some blogs you like that are sort of related to your business – or even competitors.

OK.  Now Twitter lets you customize your page, so – remember when we talked about branding and website design?  Find something about your site design (or use your picture) and add that to your Twitter page so when people see you on Twitter and then visit your site, they will recognize it.

Make a fan page in Facebook for your site and be sure to add your blog to Facebook so it updates every time you make a post.

For the forums, create a signature line that publicizes your business (if they will let you -  if not, look for more forums.)

Now that you’ve got that all set up, you need to get out there!

Update your status on Facebook at least once a day.  Make friends.  Try to find at least one thing that relates to what your target market is interested in and share it on Facebook daily.  For instance, I might post a business tip on a Moms Biz Kit Facebook account.

On Twitter, you should be friendly, helpful, and once in a while, throw in something about your new site and business.  More tips on your area of expertise are good here too.

In the forums, be helpful, friendly, and supportive.  Do not sell!  That’s what your signature is for – to tell people what you do.  The forum is for making friends, helping others, and showing off your expertise.

As for the blogs you found – you should probably subscribe to them in a reader so that you’ve not wasting time checking them one by one.  Then as often as you can – but not too often – comment on a post.  Most blogs will let you add your website to your comment, so that’s a good way to get your name out there and show off what you know.

Don’t know how to do some of this stuff?  Join us at Moms Biz Kit!
