Do you know how important the design of your website is?

Yes, I know it’s all about how it looks.  That is the fun part isn’t it?  I’ve seen some really cute websites online, especially those about decorating your home.  I’m addicted to those kinds of sites.

The truth is that your website design is more important than you think.

When I first started my site ADD Moms, I went through web design changes constantly.  Not a good idea.  After all, if your site looks different every time someone visits, what are they going to think about you and the way you do business?

If you’ve been reading this blog from the beginning, you know that it originally looked different than it does now.  I had a cutesy design with a perky looking woman and blue polka dots.  I thought it was friendly looking, but not so professional.

I like the design of the site now, although I wish I had more of an opportunity to add some personality.

Or maybe what you sell could turn into a brand.  If you make and sell candles, you might get a designer to make a candle graphic for your logo.

Think about a store like Victoria’s Secret.  The store, both inside and out, the website, the ads in magazines, even the bags they use all have the same color scheme and design.  You’re probably not going to be as big as Victoria’s Secret for a while, but you can use their strategy of branding to brand yourself.

The other important thing about website design is how search engines like Google look at it.  You want your site design to be search engine friendly.

Now that’s not something you can tell just by looking at a site; it’s in the actual code that makes the site.  You want to look for a site that is SEO optimized.  SEO means search engine optimization – how easily search engines like Google can find your site and search it to find out what it’s about.
